Welcome message
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa!
One of the key duties of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria, South Africa, is to provide assistance to Croatian citizens who live and work in South Africa or in one of the African countries to which the Embassy is also accredited to: Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia. It is equally important to give the information to the citizens and residents of South Africa and other mentioned countries who are interested in our beautiful country as tourists, business people, or for any other reason. We believe that our website will help the interested citizens to be better informed. That will contribute to further the co-operation between Croatia and South Africa, as well as the Croatian co-operation with the other countries the Embassy covers.
The Croatian – South African relations are very good. There has never been a dispute between the two countries. Very soon after becoming an independent state, Croatia established the diplomatic relations with the new South Africa. Soon afterwards, it opened the Embassy in the South African capital city.
As well as South Africans, Croatians are fully aware that “freedom wasn’t free”. That is exactly the reason why Croatia – as well as South Africa – highly esteems and defends the values of the human rights for all the people, democracy and the commitment to peace. Croatia is equally firmly committed to these values inside the national borders, in its region and in the whole world.
In addition to the good bilateral political relations, we have been witnessing recently an increased mutual trade and the raise in economic relations in general. The Embassy has been very actively promoting the Croatian culture in South Africa.
Croats who live in South Africa and the South Africans who visit Croatia build a bridge which connects the two countries, otherwise geographically very far away. Despite the fact that they are not very numerous, Croatian South Africans are valuable and esteemed members of the community. They contribute to their new, multiethnic African country, while not forgetting their Croatian roots.
It is our sincere hope that this website will help you to find out more about the country which we do not call for nothing “Our beautiful homeland” – if you don’t know why, you’ll soon find out. If you still miss some information, or would like to learn more, do not hesitate to contact us. |
